We've added Photo Gallery from the tournment as well as the following update.
This is from Mike Talleda and was written the day after the tournament 11/30/01:
Sometimes you just have to believe that things are meant to happen the way they do. For the last few days before the tournament I started getting calls from people asking "what if it rains?" The weather reports were saying possible rain, then probable rain. Then, certain rain. It was inconceivable to me, that after so much work in such a short period of time that the Man upstairs was going to rain on our parade; and also, I pretty much accepted the fact that God, in his infinite wisdom, either had a better plan or he didn't particularly like golfers. It was drizzling in the morning when we showed up to the course. A few people showed up, all thinking what I was dreading. Then it started pouring and then it would stop again for a few minutes, only to start again in a few moments. This went on and on throughout the morning. The phone kept ringing off the hook, people asking if the thing was on or off. With all of this we still had about 70 people show up!
The weather was getting worse and the natives were getting restless. Finally at about 11.15AM the rain stopped for a few minutes. We told the course to line up the carts. I walked back into the coffee shop where everybody was nice and warm and huddled together and did one of those "It's time to fish or cut bait...this is no mountain for a climber" speeches. "THE TOURNAMENT is on," I told them, "so who ever wants to play get your rear out there. Who ever wants their money back we'll give it to you." No one asked for their money back. One guy jokingly told me later that he'd give us the money just so he didn't have to play.
Before you knew it, we had 57 golfers out in the course. The rain stopped and the sun even showed up briefly to say hello. It turned out to be a great day after all. We lost about 30 golfers because of the weather but, ironically, we now had about $3,000.00 more to donate as a result of this development. Instead of the approximately $7000.00 that we would have made, we now have about 10,000.00. And we still had a beautiful day and dinner. If you stayed and played you contributed. If you didn't stay and play you contributed. How often does that that happen. Maybe in his infinite wisdom, He knew we needed a little more money.
I just received an email from Windows of Hope thanking us for our support and they are going to list our event on their calendar - a little late, but so what, we have a little more money for them now also we have anther $2,500.00 for Cheryl and her 2 boys. We should have all the numbers by the end of next week. Again thanks to each and every one for helping to make this possible. We still have more work left before we can say "we're done with this one." We should be almost finished by next week and then we can cut checks.
